Dear God, we truly needed her here...
So, This Virtuous
Woman Is No More!
When Prof Dora Akunyili made her last public appearance at
the National Conference, almost every Nigerian couldn’t recognize her. That
killer in name of cancer had eaten deep into the elegance of a hitherto pretty woman.
A woman, whose exquisite beauty went beyond the superficial surface of bodily
skin.
How could this heartless ailment find its route through the
nature-loving embodiment of dignity we simply called Dora? How could this
destroyer invade that altar of unadulterated kindness that came to National prominence
via her role as Zonal Secretary (South East) for the Petroleum trust Fund under
Rtd General Muhammadu Buhari? How could this candle of honesty and diligence to
national calls be extinguished at a time dear country needed such
straightforward Trojans for continued existence of a fledging nation?
We will forever miss you. Which nation wouldn’t miss a
woman, who returned $12,000, meant for surgery that American doctors later
advised wasn’t necessary, to PTF when this wicked ailment first showed signs it
was going to snuff out our amazon earlier than good for us? Which generation
wouldn’t miss an icon, who defied every arm-twisting acts of violence to bring perpetrators
to their knees via her iron lady-like reign as NAFDAC DG? Which continent
wouldn’t miss a Trojan, who defied parochial interests to stand firm in call to
declare then Vice president Goodluck Jonathan the Acting President while
ex-President Yar’Adua was no longer capable of holding that office?
The questions could go on, dragging uncontrollable tears at
every try … but we must bow to the wish of the Almighty, who molded her,
shifted her Nigeria’s way, forced her acceptance in a country of unhealthy tribal
competition, protected her in the midst of crooks whose paths she crushed
firmly for humanity sake and then took her at that moment she became very ripe
to offer experience to the upcoming generation.
Nigerians will forever mourn you.
Being an incredible woman of substance, you actually
defeated this monstrous ailment before taking your bow. You defied this
thief-in-the-night, took your stage at the national Conference and loved dear
nation till date. By that singular act of unrivaled courage, you stood on both
feet to wave bye to a nation you loved without reservation for all your 59
years.
Your Senatorial ambition may be the only major desire you
failed to achieve but that is insignificant to all you were blessed with. It
was just 59 years but indeed, it was a life well-spent!
ADIEU, VIRTUOUS
WOMAN!
